The FIRE Covenant
I hereby commit with this covenant to seek and serve God in my personal life, and in my workplace. I make this covenant with God this day as follows:
God is the owner of all things, including the work He has called me to, and those related people and resources He has entrusted to my care. I submit to God’s authority over any decisions I am personally responsible for, including charitable giving, ownership issues, or financing transactions, I will walk with courageous faith.
In my conversations and dealings with others, I will strictly adhere to rules of honesty, justice, and integrity so that I don’t injure or defraud others, and so that Jesus may be glorified. I will adhere to the Golden Rule, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” In my financial dealings, I will render to everyone his due to assure that I do not cause harm to my neighbor by willfully or negligently refusing to pay my debts.
I will treat others with respect and dignity, including all employees, customers, suppliers, and government officials. I will model Jesus’ two greatest commandments by “loving God” and “loving others as ourselves.” When I have knowingly wronged someone, I will go to them to make amends, including paying restitution when necessary. When I feel others have wronged me, I will adhere to the principles of dispute resolution found in Matthew 18:15-17 rather than resorting to backbiting and ill feelings.
As a representative of our Lord Jesus in the workplace I will do my work as unto the Lord, striving to model excellence in all that I do. When it is brought to my attention that I have supplied defective products or services, I will do what is right, regardless of cost, to remedy the situation.
I commit to regularly examine myself against these promises, especially when I partake of the Lord’s Supper. I will also strive to maintain relationships with others who can help hold me accountable to these commitments. Please God, keep me from my fleshly desires that may lead me to violate this covenant.
